All of Your Hard Work is Paying Off!

Thanks to you, we’ve been making steady progress in the Himalayan villages of Mate and Sikdel! As some of you know, we have been working on a school in Sikdel for several months now. It has not been the fastest progress due to the inaccessibility of the area, but any progress is good progress and these last few months have flown by. Since there is no viable roadway for vehicles, all materials and tools have been carried to the site. Volunteers have been getting plenty of exercise to say the least!

When we first started this project, there was debris everywhere. This of course was due to the 2015 earthquake that initially destroyed the original school. We were able to work quickly with locals to build a temporary schoolhouse for students. Once that was up and running, we got right to work clearing debris and saving any material we could for the rebuild. Now that the debris has been cleared, we are working on the construction of a retaining wall using local timber.

The Next Phase

For the next phase of the project, volunteers will be working side by side locals to build framing, roofing and eventually finishing the project by installing windows, doors, plastering walls and painting. If anyone is interesting in helping out, we could sure use it, and thank you again to those who have already participated!
